I know, not many kpop fans talk about finance but 4/5 members of the team are accounts students so we do talk finance. We care about what's happening on SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment's stocks on KOSDAQ. Okay so you guys must be wondering what the heck is KOSDAQ? KOSDAQ is a trading board of Korea Exchange in South Korea. It's where companies exchange stocks. So recently with Gangnam Style overflowing popularity, it might have somehow affect YG Entertainment's stock on KOSDAQ for sure. Because in business, it's all about getting maximum revenue.
For the first half of the year, SM showed not only excellent result but was the best. SNSD's unit Taetiseo, F(x)'s success in Electric Shock had greatly contributed to SM Entertainment stocks as they earned business profit totalling more than 200 million USD and net profit of 190 million USD more than previous term. BoA and Super Junior's successful comeback in July too have greatly contributed to SM Entertainments stocks.
YG is also doing very well, not just well but very very well. In the first half of this year, YG Entertainment has gained approximately 400 million USD of sales. It is also expected that Psy's overseas activities will contribute to YG Entertainment stocks for the 4th quarter of 2012.
YG Entertainment is now highly likely taking over the world of entertainment. Little scandals don't bother them, they move on very quickly. Psy is breaking through America's music industry, 2NE1 is doing tremendously well in Japan and G-Dragon is sweeping charts in South Korea. Do we need to say more here?
SM on the other hand has failed to impress with EXO as their ambition to make EXO as successful as other SM's products (to name a few - Girls Generation and Super Junior) failed. They tried not to fail and they failed. We're not playing favorites but we are definitely talking about the truth. From the beginning of the year, SM's spot on KOSDAQ has been agitated and now with Park Jae Sang's help, YG has been able to run closer to SM's top spot in KOSDAQ. After 10 years of leading in KOSDAQ, SM Entertainment might have to agree on the fact that YG might be as good as them if not better.
