Many things took place today, bad and good but in order to break away from the current news, I decided to talk about the competitiveness of the wednesday-thursday drama slot. Currently, the three dramas that are competing for highest viewers rating in Wednesday-Thursday slot are Arang and The Magistrate, Nice Guy and To The Beautiful You. Arang and The Magistrate which will air it's 12th episode tonight has been holding the number 1 spot after Bridal Mask ended. However not long after, Nice Guy starring Song Joong Ki came along and is now going neck and neck with Arang and The Magistrate for the first spot.
1. Arang and The Magistrate
Starring Lee Joon Ki and Shin Min Ah. I have so many love towards this drama. It has so far succeded in making me giggle, awe, cry and shiver. I'm not going to talk about the rating because I love this drama. I love Eun-Oh's hot and cold character towards Arang. He has his moments when he's the bad guy and when he's the nice guy. He loves Arang and he knows it but he just try not to show it. I was left heartbroken with Episode 10 but episode 11 came along and wrapped me with enough warmth and affection for me to love this drama all over again. This piece has enough to break you down into pieces but has more than sufficient to make you love it back. Although at times I feel like it's dreading, I still appreciate the fact that in episode 11 they've geared up with more romance scene between Lee Joon Ki and Shin Min Ah. You know what they say, patience is virtue. But... I didn't know CPR existed since Joseon dynasty, really?
2. Nice Guy
Starring Song Joong Ki, Moon Chae Won and Park Si Yeon. This drama has only aired it's 3rd episode yesterday. Despite controversy about the title's spelling of the drama, it received a great response from the viewer as it recorded 13.8% ratings with just the 3rd episode. As mentioned before, Korean National Language Institute formally requested for Nice Guy to change it's spelling to the correct one in order to avoid misunderstanding from viewers especially foreigners and KBS caved in to the request. Nice Guy is about an intelligent and hopeful medical student, Ma Roo (Song Joong Ki) who was betrayed by his girlfriend Han Jae-Hee (Park Si Yeon) after she met a rich CEO. A few years later, Ma Roo who felt betrayed changed from being the 'nice guy' to a completely different person than who he was. Eun-Gi (Moon Chae Won) who is a daughter to a rich man, loses her memory after an accident. Ma Roo made use of her to take revenge against her ex, Jae-Hee. This drama is a piece by South Korea's most famous television drama writer - Lee Kyung Hee who had worked on a piece like 'Will It Snow For Christmas?'. With someone like Lee Kyung Hee behind the scene, it is no doubt that the drama has a very bright future waiting ahead of them.
3. To The Beautiful You
Starring Choi Min Ho, Choi Sulli and Lee Hyun Woo. This drama is based on a Japanese manga Hana-Kimi. Despite it's cast being famous actor-dols, the drama witnessed it's all-time lowest rating last night with only 4.2%.
All this dramas have very distinctive plots and to me, To The Beautiful You is no longer an interesting drama to watch as it has been remade over and over again unless you're up for a treat from Choi Min Ho or Choi Sulli.
Nice Guy on the other hand reminds me so much of the King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo which is very dramatic and mellow. I totally get the fact that koreans love this kind of elements in a drama, which is why it's receiving such great response from the viewers.
