Drama talk : Nice Guy, is it that nice?

[Warning : May contain spoilers]

After a previous session of 'Today's talk : Wednesday-Thursday dramas', I think I owe you guys a further explanation about Nice Guy. So I sat down for 5 hours to watch the drama's first 4 episodes. First impression, what have I got myself into? It's a dead end road if you began to watch this drama. It's one of those drama that makes you stay put on your seat for the next hour.

But why exactly?

Song Joong Ki is cute. For one of the many reasons on why I've fallen into the 'Nice Guy' trap is because of Song Joong Ki. Even a friend of mine said that if somebody thinks Song Joong Ki is not cute, that person might be blind or her type must be plain ugly. In this drama, Song Joong Ki's role as Kang Maru is in no way despicable. He's the guy you will love and you will want to jump into the pacific ocean for. Although in another perspective, I have to say he's plain idiotic. But that's love guys. Love makes you idiotic and it has made Kang Ma Ru became an idiot too. He's idiotic for taking the murder charge in place of Han Jae-Hee who in the end was not in any way grateful to this man. Even how idiot he is, I pity him in many ways. I want to save him, I want to take him away from the evils and heartbreaks resulting me to keep watching this drama.

The plot is unique and complicated. The story begins after Kang Ma Ru got released from jail after he received the sentence in place of Han Jae-Hee, the heartless bitchlady. The 2nd episode showed that Ma Ru is living as a gigolo to make a living in order to pay for Choco's (his sister) medical expenses. On the way back from Japan, he met Han Jae-Hee again on the plane after 6 years and he found out that Jae-Hee has married Taesan Group's CEO and has a son. He was heartbroken but instead of taking evilistic actions against her, he decided to bring back Jae-Hee to her old place, the place she used to be, with him not with anybody else. Why is he so nice? This is making me whine. In the process, more complicated events took place and overlap. As a viewer, I see no end to this matter. The thrill however is I'm drowned with so many emotions while I'm watching it. Hatred, compassion, annoyed and touched.

The screenplay itself is good. No not just good, but tremendously well-done. Lee Kyung Hee is a man with many experiences so it was no doubt that he is so good at this. I'm sorry Hong Sisters, maybe you should pick up a tip or two from him. Lee Kyung Hee knows that in order to make a good, dramatic screenplay you have to kick it off from the first episode so the plot will actually makes sense. It's only the 4th episode but I think I'm already halfway through. If that feeling hits you, it means that things will slowly sort out by itself from the upcoming episodes onward. It's that smooth sailing experience of this drama that makes it so enjoyable to watch. You have that security blanket to remind you things will work out in the end and you will not be disappointed ; Lee Kyung Hee's skills to me is that security blanket.
